I choose the lesson I presented on Ecosystems as evidence of competence because it is one of the lessons I am most proud of during my time in the General Education classroom. I put a lot of work into the success of this lesson, including planning and directing field trips for the entire third grade population at Hampton Cove. I coordinated the trip to Hays Nature Preserve with Susan Weber, the City of Huntsville's Botonist and administrator at Hays. The third grade classes hiked from the school to Hays and we used the opportunity to conduct a scavenger hunt for plants and animals. Ms. Weber was wonderful with the students took the classes on a nature walk four days straight! Everyone enjoyed the morning away from the classroom and the exercise, with the possible exception of a few parent chaperones.
The Ecosystem unit lasted for the entire week and I wrote a co-teaching lesson plan that my cooperating teacher enjoyed teaching said was "wonderful"! The Ecosystem worksheet was a hit with many of the other teachers and they asked for copies to integrate into their own lessons.
